Scooter & Me Staff Training

In the Move with Me™ Staff Training, teachers learn how to optimize the implementation of the Scooter & Me Program as ideal active play and social-emotional learning for ages 3 - 7.

scooter-me-staff-trnObjectives - Teachers leave able to:

  • Implement a more advanced moderately vigorous active play with instruction
  • Understand how to support fitness, focus and whole brain learning with simple movements and mind-body exercises.
  • Teach and use self-regulation techniques throughout the day to reduce stress & improve emotional stability in themselves & students.
  • Support children in better impulse control, self-reflection and self-regulation.
  • Build on movement stories for cross-curricular explorations.
  • Use Storybooks to create movement sessions that support early literacy and learning readiness.

What makes the Scooter & Me Program uniquely fun and engaging:
Story – Driven Movement – children follow-along with the "yoga/movement/Brain Gym®" instructor as they tell and demonstrate a story. Children are engaged in “being” everything in the story – the lion, the rocket, the tree, the flower and the bumble-bee. Because the process of acting out the narrative is WAY MORE FUN than performing calisthenics, children sustain focus and concentration for longer periods, build stamina and coordination and improve early literacy and direction following.

Includes both Aerobic and Intentional Movement – children participate in a balanced combination of vigorous creative movement, which elevates the heart rate and contributes to increased release of neurotropic growth factors; and slower, focused yoga poses, which have been shown to concentrate those growth factors in the hippocampus and cerebellum, the centers for long and short term memory as well as coordinated thought and movement.

Integrates Self-Care and Self-Regulation Techniques – the characters in the movement stories face and overcome challenges by using “adventure skills”, which are Brain Gym® based techniques that give children a set of simple exercises they can use to calm and center themselves when rocked by more intense emotions such as, fear, anger, frustration or excitement. These self-regulation tools are simple exercises, with concrete, easily visualized names such as Monkey Wisdom, Elephant Ears and Ocean Breath. They give children a vocabulary for supporting themselves and redirecting their impulses in productive and emotionally intelligent ways. When children are empowered to calm and center, to control the impulse to act out when their emotions threaten to overwhelm themselves or others, they build self-control and self-confidence.
