LA Yoga Magazine Loves Pizza Party!

Thanks to LA Yoga Magazine for the great review!

"For the budding yogis or yoginis in your life, Pizza Party by Yoga Playgrounds, provides a fun and engaging introduction to the practice for children ages three through seven. Developed by kid's Yoga experts Leah Kalish (who is now training people around the country to implement Yoga for kids with Yoga Playgrounds) and Lisa Detamore, this DVD provides a developmentally appropriate blend of Yoga and creative movement.

The sequence is designed to teach basic breath and movement techniques as well as to reduce stress, while improving a child's concentration, balance and mental awareness.

On screen, Lisa Detamore leads the class of ten children with sparkling energy, warmth and humor. As the class progresses - students are taught three rules of Yoga: 1) Stay in your yoga body (no slumping).2) Breathe and move slowly. 3) Yoga ends with rest.

All of these are valuable tools for children (and adults!) to embrace.

From the opening Yoga song, to the crocodile that "likes to sit in the mud and feel the water wash down its back" the class stays engaged through a combination of movement, metaphor, story and sound. This process culminates in the final pizza party, where our mini yogis metaphorically roll out the dough (in a seated straddle), add toppings and bake their pizzas. As we know that Yoga and pizza are both gifts to be shared, Detamore and her charges use their foot as a phone to invite family and friends to partake of the feast. The party ends with a guided meditation as the students are invited to imagine themselves in their favorite place. I would imagine that after such an adventure, that favorite place might be a Yoga mat!"
